BMP（骨形態(tài)發(fā)生蛋白）屬于信號蛋白的TGF-β。BMP-2是一種有效的骨誘導細胞因子，能夠誘導骨和軟骨形成，與骨傳導載體（如膠原蛋白和合成羥基磷灰石）結合。除了其成骨活性外，BMP-2還參與器官發(fā)生，特別是心臟形態(tài)發(fā)生以及肢芽形成。BMP-2 表達可以在多種組織中發(fā)現(xiàn)，包括肺、脾臟、腦、肝、前列腺卵巢和小腸。BMP-2的功能形式是一種26 kDa蛋白質，由兩個相同的114個氨基酸多肽鏈組成，由單個二硫鍵連接。每個BMP-2單體表示為前體多肽的C末端部分，其中還含有用于分泌的23個氨基酸信號序列和259個氨基酸的前肽。在該前體二聚化后，前肽（也是二硫鍵連接的同源二聚體）和成熟的BMP-2配體之間的共價鍵被弗林型蛋白酶切割。
BMPs (Bone Morphogenetic Proteins) belong to the TGF-beta of signaling proteins. BMP-2 is a potent osteoinductive cytokine, capable of inducing bone and cartilage formation in association with osteoconductive carriers such as collagen and synthetic hydroxyapatite. In addition to its osteogenic activity, BMP-2 is also involved in organogenesis, particularly in cardiac morphogenesis, as well as limb bud formation. BMP-2 expression can be found in a variety of tissues including lung, spleen, brain, liver, prostate ovary and small intestine.The functional form of BMP-2 is a 26 kDa protein composed of two identical 114 amino acid polypeptide chains linked by a single disulfide bond. Each BMP-2 monomer is expressed as the C-terminal part of a precursor polypeptide, which also contains a 23 amino acid signal sequence for secretion, and a 259 amino acid propeptide. After dimerization of this precursor, the covalent bonds between the propeptide (which is also a disulfide-linked homodimer) and the mature BMP-2 ligand are cleaved by a furin-type protease.
